    Description

1713 Bolivia Royal 8 Reales ERROR Missing 7 in date INSANELY RARE
Here we have an insanely rare coin. Not only is this a Royal, or Galano, presentation strike 8 reales, but this is the only the second we could find to ever hit the auction block which has a mint error. Two of the three dates are full, but one of them is missing the 7, reading "1 13" instead of "1713". Galanos have been seen with overdates, but that is not considered an error, but a variety. This is an actual mint error on a presentation strike 8 reales. Think of Royals as the equivalent to a proof striking. An insane error on a proof striking is very rare, as they are made specially with much attention paid to the manufacturing process. To find an error on a Galano is stunning, and this is the only one we could find to ever become available.
It sold previously for a miniscule amount at auction overseas, which was way too little for a coin of such importance.
Any amount could be asked for this coin due to its rarity and what it is, possibly the only error Royal 8 reales to ever hit market from the 1700s. The other error, a 1652 which had the number 4 instead of 8 listed as the denomination (hole plugged, gilding removed, details enhanced), sold at Sedwick auction 17, lot 897 for ,250 plus buyers fee, or around ,000.
Normally, Galanos of the later years are of more compact flans (see our 1707 and 1735 galanos for reference); this example is a very large broad flan, reminiscent of the galanos from the 1600s.
