Antique Tuareg Tribe Tent Curtain Engraved Leather Window Hanging Mali, Africa

This is an amazing
traditional antique Tuareg Berber desert tent leather paneled fringed window covering which was used as a curtain in a Tuareg tent window to keep out dust, sand, bugs, sun and heat.This antique Tuareg tent curtain or window shade was handcrafted from tribally raised and tanned leather made from goat hide which has been dyed several different shades and colors. The top panel of this antique tribal tent window curtain is strung on a hand carved piece of wood and the panel is embroidered with colorful thread displaying intricate patterns and which is highlighted with some delicate white plastic vinyl floss and has a leather encased mirror amulet hanging in the center flanked by two leather hanging amulets. From this top embroidered panel of the African curtain hangs a very large amount of long colorful leather fringe with three complex leather strip panels with hand carved or engraved geometrical designs which were artistically hand cut into the leather by removing small bits of the colored or tanned top layer of the leather to make amazing contrasting designs.
The Tuareg are a fierce semi nomadic people who range across the
southern Sahara desert in Africa so being the Tuareg women are experts at packing and have always embraced functional items that display great beauty but which take up little space packed
.This antique handmade Tuareg leather tent curtain would be excellent for adding to any Tuareg or African art collection or would be great statement piece as a wall hanging.This antique Tuareg tribal leather tent shade measure 39 inches long by 18.50 inches wide. Good used condition with some wear and minor damage consistent with age and tribal use. Which includes but not limited to the blue leather hanging panel on one side of the top of the curtain panel and also the center leather hanging panel with the encased mirror have both come a little unsewn from the main panel but are still connected. Also, one center fringe embellished has hardly any fringe remaining compared to the matching embellishment on the opposite side which probably resulted from some damage (shown and labeled in the last photo).
