    Description

This is a 9 1/4" dinner or luncheon plate made by the Wellsville China Company in the Upper Ohio Valley (1902-1922).  This restaurantware type china plate is heavy (over 1 1/2 lbs.) and sturdy.  Davis and Elkins College is in Elkins, West Virginia.  It was founded in 1904 so this plate is from the very early days as the Wellsville China Company ceased to exist in 1922.  The college was named for Henry G. Davis and his son-in-law Stephen B. Elkins.  This plate was found in Elkins, West Virginia.
