Georgetown University Song c 1936
Today's Alma Mater but with Original Lyrics:
"Sons of Georgetown"
"Sons of Georgetown Alma Mater, Swift Potomac's lovely daughter, Ever watching by the water, Smiles on us today, Wave her colors ever, Furl her standard never! Raise it high and proudly say, 'We're Georgetown's sons forever.' Where Potomac's tide is streaming, From her spires and steeples beaming, See the grand old banner gleaming, Georgetown Blue and Gray."
Genuine vintage sheet music and lyrics to this historic Georgetown University alma mater song -- with original lyrics before they were changed to include both genders. Four verses, first shown above.
Taken directly from the 1936 printing of an Intercollegiate Song Book of school alma mater and football songs, this is a beautiful, cream-colored page lightly tinged with the golden burnish that comes only with the passing years.
This original song sheet is over 80 years old, yet looks fabulous.
Page is approx. 7 3/4" x 11".
Song credits at top: "Words by Robert T. Collier, '94." Written by a Georgetown alum, Class of 1894! Cool.
Date at bottom: "Copyright, 1936, by The Thornton W. Allen Company, New York, N.Y."
Frame it... What an impressive piece of history and wonderful gift for a Georgetown University alum or Bulldogs fan!
