In 1918 the USRA combined the tracks between Denver and Pueblo to form the Joint Line. "Carlton" is the seventh in a series honoring the trains and stations of the Joint Line. Carlton, located about 70 miles south of Denver, was named after Albert "Bert" Carlton. Carlton had made millions off of the initial Cripple Creek gold rush. Carlton got involved in coal mining and other ventures in the Colorado Springs area.
This car is a Union Pacific 90 ton H-90-1 class triple hopper manufactured in October 1962 by Bethlehem Steel's Johnstown Plant. The car is painted UP mineral brown with yellow printing. The car also has end printing.
