    Description

This is  a Vintage African Milk/Mala Calabash Gourd & Camel Hide Container
It is an authentic beautifully preserved African tribal (perhapsGabra) milk container made from calabash gourd and camel hide called the chicho.
It measures 8 1/2" tall 6" in diameter and weighs 1 pound 8 ounces.
I am not sure which tribe but if it is the Gabra (also written Gabbra or Gebra), they are a camel herding  ethnic group mainly inhabiting the Chalbi Desert in northern Kenya and the highlands of southern Ethiopia.
The container is in good condition for its age.  The leather is soiled  from use  The straps although fragile and dried are not ripped or torn. The inside is "clean" and has no smell.   Most of these containers will contain milk or milk solids (homemade yogurt) and does have a certain smell.  This does not. Please refer to the provided images for details.
